St.-Tropez: Where to Shop: Overview

With some five hundred stores on thirty-seven acres, St.-Tropez has earned its reputation as a shopping mecca. A good place to start is at the Place des Lices, then slowly make your way toward the harbor through the charming small streets and alleys. Some of the best shops are found along the Rue Georges Clemenceau, Rue Allard, Rue Gambetta and the Place de la Garonne, all within walking distance of the Place des Lices, where you shouldn’t miss the classic Provençal market (it’s open Tuesday and Saturday). In the midst of food stands (scoop up a jar of lavender honey or some locally made jams), you’ll find stalls of men’s linen shirts in every color and beachy T-shirts and sarongs. The fashion on sale at the top boutiques around town is all about endless summer: pink linen shirts for men and sexy flowing garbs for women. Glittery sandals and shimmering fake jewels are also de rigueur. Best of all, you’ll find the big-name brands alongside shops selling unmistakable St.-Tropez originals.
