Las Vegas: Introduction: Why Go Now

The better question is, Why not? Nongaming luxury towers open daily. Suites once reserved for “whales,” or gamblers who spend at least a million dollars a night at the tables, are now available to the less prodigal public. There are restaurants of Michelin quality, over-the-top spas and every designer boutique you’ve ever heard of, all within in a quarter-square-mile area. The shows are straight from Broadway, and the entertainers the most talented in the world. In fact, Vegas has become as famous for its theater events as it has for shopping, gaming or even dining, with three out of four visitors attending a performance whenever they come to town. And the city’s transformations show no sign of slowing down.
