Jaipur: Where to Shop: Overview

Jaipur is a world-class destination for precious gems. This spring, on my last trip, I found new sources for pashmina shawls, antique silver tribal jewelry, cashmere wraps, sandals and modern takes on traditional handcrafts—proof of what a thriving artisanal culture exists here. Each shop sets its own hours, so it’s wise to call ahead. Most bazaars are closed Sundays, and many hotel shops close in the afternoon and reopen from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Gem Palace stays open until 8:30 p.m. and Sundays until 7:30 p.m.; and Hot Pink, in its lovely garden setting, welcomes customers until 9 p.m. daily.
