Most of the five-star hotels are located within a mile or two of the eastern end of Tiananmen Square, with the closest, the newly opened Raffles Hotel, just a five-minute walk away. But newest isn’t necessarily best: the more established properties such as the Peninsula, the China World and the St. Regis passed the teething stage many moons ago.
