Escape: Places: Las Ventanas al Paraiso
Las Ventanas al Paraiso
S.A.B., San Francisco
“My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Las Ventanas al Paraiso (“Windows to Paradise” which is certainly an accurate description) and it is a truly fantastic/ultra-luxurious spot.
The resort is intimate/small (71 suites each of which are amazingly well appointed and very uniquely designed…I’d recommend a Jr. oceanfront rooftop or a one-bedroom ocean front suite) and is located in a stunningly beautiful spot overlooking the Sea of Cortez. LV is owned by Ty Warner who is known for sparing no expense when it comes to his properties (which include the Four Seasons New York, Four Seasons Biltmore and San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara) which is certainly the case with LV.
The resort grounds are small but offer a large main infinity pool (and several other equally beautiful smaller pools) that over look the Sea of Cortez; two (one casual or formal) great restaurants serving authentic/eclectic mexican food as well as a cerviche/tequila bar (and there are several other very good restaurants close by in the the town of Cabo San Lucas as well as at several other luxury resorts like Esperanza and One & Only Palmilla); there is a great spa (w/a huge list of treatments) and fitness facility and two tennis courts on property. There are several fantastic golf courses (Nicklaus, Weiskopf, Fazio and Trent Jones) very close by as well as world class deep sea fishing. You can also arrange sailing, surfing, snorkeling, beach and desert excursions (on ATVs or horseback) as well as whale-watching (although this is best in the winter months) through LV’s concierge who can handle any request you might have. The service is second to none with a very high staff to guest ratio; personal butler service offered for the one/three bedroom luxury suites and underground tunnels below the resort so the the staff can travel to and from rooms w/out disturbing guests.
The weather in Cabo is about as reliable/perfect as you could ask for (300 hundred plus days of sun with no real worry of hurricanes or tropical rainstorms like you get in the Caribbean during the Fall). It’s easy to get to with most major airlines flying in and out.
Only possible drawbacks are that LV is very expensive, the beach sand is coarser than the softer sands of the Caribbean; their are often serve rip-currents in the ocean so swimming is better left to the pools and lastly LV often has hollywood celebs (Brittney Spears was there in late July) visiting which may or may not be drawback…”
