Annie Fitzsimmons has worked in the travel industry for more than 17 years and is beyond thrilled to be the Editorial Director at Indagare, a brand she has loved since it launched. She worked for more than nine years in various roles at National Geographic Travel, including as luxury editor, editor at large and founding member of the Editorial Council. After realizing there was a need and opportunity to showcase a female voice, Annie pitched and created an entirely new brand and became National Geographic's first and only Urban Insider. She traveled to six continents as Urban Insider, reporting on people, cities, hotels and culture—plus she appeared in national, digital and magazine ad campaigns for travel and lifestyle brands and starred in two national TV commercials for Transitions Lenses and General Motors.
Most recently, she was Luxury Travel and Advisor Editor at AFAR Media, launching a successful newsletter, pivoting into the host of AFAR Live when the pandemic hit and writing and editing original stories. She interviewed travel leaders and personalities such as Netflix’s Phil Rosenthal, actors Susan Sarandon and Neal Patrick Harris and Hermès CEO Bob Chavez. Annie has been a keynote speaker and panelist on luxury travel trends, media and content at events around the world, including SXSW in Austin, World Travel Market in London and the Hospitality World Congress in Barcelona. She is passionate about the luxury travel industry and worked with ILTM (International Luxury Travel Market) to produce and host a podcast showcasing the true value of luxury travel, a $2.05 trillion ecosystem that supports around 170 million jobs, 90 percent of which are family or small businesses. Her book for National Geographic and Disney Publishing, Hotels of a Lifetime, will be published in September 2024 in more than 60 countries and translated into more than 17 languages.
Annie is originally from Scottsdale, Arizona and spent more than ten years in New York City (she is also a licensed NYC tour guide). She is now based in London with her husband, Swiss-American daughter and rescue dog.
