This archipelago of white-sand islands, over 1,000 miles off the coast of east Africa, is a renowned tropical destination for good reason: it is remote, luxurious and gorgeous.

North Island

The emphasis of exquisite North Island remains on space and privacy, with only 11 guest villas, all roughly 5,000 square-feet and handcrafted by Seychellois craftsman with local wood, stone and thatching. The villas are raised on stilts to catch the breeze, and from the two separate bedrooms, large bathroom (with marble baths and an outdoor shower) and a changing area, guests can look out over the enormous white sand beach.

For something completely unique, Villa 11, known as Villa North Island, is perched on a rock on the north side of Anse d’Est Beach with a rope bridge entrance and an open-plan bathroom with panoramic views. Settle into the huge tub (with room for two), or walk down the handcrafted staircase to an outdoor shower hanging from the cliff edge.

Meals are served in the central Island Piazza, at West Beach Bar with views of the sunset, in guests' villas or anywhere else on the island that guests might like to picnic. There are menus but they are only for help brainstorming, the chef and your butler will arrange anything you might desire from coal-oven pizzas to Creole tapas to freshly caught grilled fish (and room rates include all meals).

There’s equipment available for biking, hiking, kayaking and snorkeling and divers have the chance to explore part of the world’s longest coral reef, with such an abundance of marine life it has been nicknamed the ‘Galapagos of the Indian Ocean’. Each villa has a small private pool but there is also a gorgeous pool that hangs out over a cliff. The small hilltop spa catches lovely breezes and guests could—and do—spend hours just gazing out at the horizon from the treatment rooms.
