Destination Hero Image

Vieques

A lovely island that joins Puerto Rico in what is sometimes known as the “Spanish Virgin Islands,” Vieques boasts crystal-clear waters, white-sand beaches and secret coves for snorkeling. You can find wild horses roaming the countryside, much of which is protected by the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge. In this secluded, largely undiscovered haven, the locals maintain a laid-back island atmosphere that can be hard to find on more developed Caribbean islands.

    Essential Vieques

Vieques is a lesser-known destination that is best explored with an itinerary full of insider tips. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day 1: Beaches

The best beaches on Vieques are located on the Southern Caribbean side, and are accessible by car. Spend the day relaxing in the sun with a good book, then enjoy a picnic dinner by candlelight as you listen to the waves and sip a local cocktail.

    • Day 2: Water Sports

Indagare can arrange a guided snorkeling or scuba tour that will take you to see the island’s coral reefs. We can charter a boat for those who would like to explore further offshore.

    • Day 3: Land Activities

Spend your last day in Vieques exploring the art community in the town of Isabela, where there are numerous galleries and studios to peruse. Indagare can also arrange an afternoon of horseback riding or hiking for those who want to spend time outside.

"El Blok is hard to miss. Constructed of concrete curves, it boasts perhaps the Caribbean’s most offbeat architecture, care of local architect Nataniel Fuster. Also making waves is the restaurant, helmed by Jose Enrique—a James Beard Award semifinalist in 2013 and 2014—which serves a fresh, minimalist tapas menu."
