With blue skies and more than 70 miles of magnificent coastline, San Diego lives up to its postcard-perfect image of coastal living. But it’s not just the shore that draws millions of visitors every year. The city’s diverse neighborhoods—beach, mountain and urban—in addition to its culinary, fitness and cultural offerings provide countless opportunities to get outside and explore California’s second largest city.

3 Days: Essential San Diego
From its famous zoo to gorgeous beaches and wildflower-lined trails, San Diego offers an embarrassment of riches. A long list of opportunities and activities are available, including family-friendly theme parks, outdoor recreation, arts and culture or simple relaxation. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.
Day 1: La Jolla Beaches
Relax in La Jolla, the oceanfront community known for its surfing culture and beautiful beaches. Be sure to stop by the La Jolla Underwater Park, a 6,000-acre protected marine reserve that is home to a variety of species, from bat rays and garibaldis to the occasional great white shark. As a marine reserve, the section is free of boating and other motorized vehicles, but kayaking is encouraged, and the diving is some of the best in California.
Day 2: San Diego Zoo
With more than 3,700 animals and 700,000 plants, this sprawling, world-renowned zoo boasts an impressive collection of flora and fauna, including pandas, condors, rhinos, jaguars and more. The zoo’s nearby Safari Park features open range exhibits where African and Asian animals wander freely. Indagare can arrange a VIP experience with a private tour guide to make your visit even more memorable.
Day 3: Excursion
Families with children might consider a day trip to nearby Legoland, where Indagare can arrange a VIP guide to accompany you through the theme park. Active travelers should head to the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, a 2,000-acre reserve of canyons and cliffs offering countless scenic trails, miles of unspoiled beaches and a lagoon. A third option is 1,200-acre Balboa Park, which is home to many of San Diego’s museums and cultural attractions, including the Natural History Museum, San Diego Museum of Art, the Old Globe theatre and a miniature railroad train.
