    3 Days: Essential Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara is as much about the topography, with its majestic hills and stunning beaches, as it is about the excellent food and surrounding wine country. The many customizable things to do in Santa Barbara – from private boat charters to cooking classes – reflect that. Here is just one example of what our specialists can create for you.

    • Day 1: Key Sites

Visit the Old Mission Santa Barbara, founded in 1786 as one of the 21 missions established by the Spanish Franciscans. Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the property, or Indagare can arrange a special visit focused on art and architecture or on La Huerta, the Mission garden. Later, tour the exotic Lotusland gardens, a 37-acre personal preserve and eccentric Eden created by the late opera star Madame Ganna Walska on her Montecito estate. End your evening with dinner at one of Santa Barbara’s top restaurants.

    • Day 2: Beach Retreat

Some of the best beaches in the area include East Beach (great for volleyball), West Beach (with a nice path for biking and walking), Montecito’s Butterfly Beach, Arroyo Burro and Miramar Beach. Santa Barbara also offers top-notch surfing opportunities: aspiring surfers should head to Padaro Beach, which has an excellent surf camp and shop, while experts will be challenged at iconic Rincon Point.

    • Day 3: Excursions

Start your morning with a private cooking class or a customized guided culinary tour through Santa Barbara, a city beloved by gourmands. Later, soak in the sunshine and scenery that makes Santa Barbara such an idyllic place for scenic biking and hiking. Some favorite paths include the Carpinteria Bluffs, Arroyo Hondo Preserve and the Coronado Butterfly Preserve.

Indagare's Melissa Biggs Bradley
“The Four Seasons Biltmore offers serious (and family-friendly) luxury in Santa Barbara’s toniest neighborhood with access to the beloved Coral Casino pool club. Built in 1927 as a refuge for Hollywood’s rich and famous, the hotel hosted everyone from Greta Garbo, Marion Davies, Lana Turner, Rock Hudson, Errol Flynn, Clark Gable and Gregory Peck, who cavorted on the grounds and around the legendary oceanfront pool.”
