    5 Days: Essential Big Island

Our itineraries include special access to the adventures and luxury resorts that make the Big Island an otherworldly paradise. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day 1-3

Hawaii’s largest island is still growing, thanks to a continually erupting volcano. Spend your first days exploring the island’s eleven different climates. Indagare can arrange scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing and other watersports, as well as guided tours of the most adventurous hiking trails and the Mauna Kea Summit, petroglyph ruins and scenic waterfalls and lagoons. In the afternoons, relax by the pool or beach and enjoy the spa before dinner.

    • Day 4

Spend your morning on a private two-hour helicopter tour of the island, including the lovely and very wild Waipio Valley, with its multitude of waterfalls. Your expert pilot will make sure you get an unbeatable view while sharing information about Big Island. In the afternoon, return to your resort for a scheduled activity and pool time, or make your way to the Spa Without Walls for an invigorating Kona coffee exfoliation before cocktails and a fun dinner.

    • Day 5

Plan on a full day to visit Kilauea, the Big Island’s active volcano and the centerpiece of the Volcanoes National Park. It is the most-visited attraction in all of Hawaii, and it shows the devastation of entire towns and even some historical landmarks caused by lava. There are also 150 miles of hiking trails, many of which will take you through old lava fields and around crater edges. Return to your hotel for a cocktail by the water before a final gourmet dinner.

"The Big Island was a lot of fun. We had a dinner reservation at Merriman's, so we drove up the northeast coast of the island. That is some spectacular scenery."

“Experiencing nature here can be intense. On Big Island, you can go from bikini to down parka during a short drive up Mauna Kea. But venturing beyond the beautiful resorts—which include some of the country’s most acclaimed—is key to fully experiencing this special destination.”
