Hundreds of years ago, the island of Oahu was the private domain of Hawaiian royalty—their Hamptons, so to speak. It’s still an escape today, but now thousands of tourists from all over the world come to this Pacific Ocean paradise. Honolulu is buzzing, and despite the city’s high-rises and network of highways, there are places on Oahu that rival any of the Hawaiian Islands.

    3 Days: Essential Oahu

Honolulu has many attractions, fine dining and big-city crowds. Indagare can craft a customized itinerary to navigate it all. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day 1

On your first day, explore the bustling metropolis that is Honolulu. Many of Oahu’s most important cultural sights are downtown, where you’ll find the biggest assortment of historic buildings, including palaces and old sea cottages. Indagare can arrange guided tours of the most important sites like Shangri La and the Iolani Palace, as well as recommend the best neighborhoods for shopping and dining. In the evening, return to your hotel for drinks and dinner at the buzzing bar.

    • Day 2

If you have time for only one side trip while on Oahu, this should be it. The site of Japan’s attack on the American naval fleet in Pearl Harbor in December 1941, propelling the U.S. into World War II, is memorialized with the U.S.S. Arizona monument, where the sunken ship—the tomb of 1,177 crewmen—is visible beneath forty feet of water. The Pearl Harbor Memorial contains two museums that recount the attack and US involvement in World War II, which you can tour with an expert guide.

    • Day 3

After breakfasting on fresh fruit smoothies and açaí bowls, visit the Waikiki Plantation Spa, which is located on a hotel roof and boasts incredible ocean views in every direction. The unique treatments combine ancient Hawaiian techniques with contemporary therapies to relax the mind and senses. Next, hit Waikiki’s surfer beaches and the Beach Walk entertainment district. You can also head over to the western side of the island, the quietest area, for relaxation and exploration.

"The Ty Gurney Surf School on the west side of Waikiki was awesome. I could not recommend this more. The kids had one-on-one instruction and the guys were so encouraging. This was my daughter's favorite part of her trip."

“Oahu’s lush interior served as a backdrop for  Jurassic Park and the television series  Lost, and the stunning world beyond the beaches is even more memorable after dark. Waimea Valley is a historic nature park that offers cascading waterfalls and spectacular stargazing.”
