Argan Abdou Bio
This women-run and operated cooperative produces and sells argan based beauty and health products. You will find oils so “your wrinkles will not hurry,” as one of the women explained. There are body, face and hair products with lots of different scents, and usually, you will find a group of women in the shop crushing and grinding the argan nuts.
Herboristerie Seddik
This beautiful shop has typical Fez mosaic floors and shelves filled with herbs and oils and essences and all sorts of traditional beauty products such as argan oil as well as medicinal plants and flower extracts.
L'Art Mauresque
Located in the Fes medina, the three-story L’Art Mauresque sells one-of-a-kind antiques and home furnishings featuring hand-carved wood, delicate silver and mother-of-pearl inlay. The English-speaking owner is helpful and can guide shoppers through the trove of treasures.
Les Mystères de Fe
Expert antiques dealers since the 1920s, the Bennani family’s exquisite riad filled with one-of-a-kind furnishings is a must-see in Fes. Wandering around their riad home, decorated with expertly crafted pieces—from 19th-century silver settes to engraved crystal and pottery—can take hours. The family has collected authentic, high quality pieces from around the world (Syria, Turkey, India and more) for decades.
Palais Quaraouiyine
The Bennani family has been in the antiques and rug merchant business for decades. At Palais Quaraouyine, they sell intricately woven Moroccan and Berber rugs in an exquisitely restored riad. While the house itself warrants a visit, shoppers are further treated to a rug demonstration where specialists present a variety of styles and weaving methods. Enjoy tea and a lesson on Moroccan heritage through its textile traditions, or pick out something special to be shipped home. Not to be missed is the family’s nearby sister shop, Les Mystères de Fe, filled with one-of-a-kind furnishings and decorative pieces, which are distinctly Moroccan in style and of the highest quality.
Terrasse de Tannerie
This leather shop, which is up narrow stairs, has a labyrinth of rooms filled with leather goods as well as terraces facing over the famous tanneries where you can watch the leather hides being treated. Be sure to get a sprig of mint from the greeter to mask the smell. The goods on display include bags and hassocks, but the best products are upstairs in the jacket room. If you don't see your desired color or style of suede or leather coat, they can whip something up to order in only a few hours. Do not take the first price offered; bargaining is a cultural practice so negotiate for a better deal.
