Marrakech with Architectural Digest: May 2019

Immerse yourself in the history, romance and style of Marrakech on a journey that explores design and architecture, as well as the rich culture of the desert.

What to Expect

From the wind-swept Desert d’Agafay to the sparkling city of Marrakech, Morocco is a seductive destination that truly has it all: glamour, romance, adventure and eternal allure. We will experience all of this by exploring the unique design and style of Marrakech, through special curated shopping tours in the souks and industrial neighborhoods, cooking classes and a curator-led visit to the new Yves Saint Laurent Museum. We will also be treated to a private luncheon and behind-the-scenes tour of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé’s estate—the Villa Oasis—and the historic Majorelle gardens.

Then, we will travel to the desert for a camel trek and a festive dinner in a tented Berber camp. Along the way, we will uncover the rich culture that makes this destination so enchanting, with the expert guidance of local guides and stylish insiders from Indagare and Architectural Digest’s combined networks. On this journey, you will be joined by Mitchell OwensAD‘s Decorative Arts editor.

This Journey's Host

Architectural Digest is a vibrant celebration of international design talents, innovative homes and products, inspiring decorating ideas, culture, and travel. Launched in 1920 as a California trade quarterly, the magazine evolved over the years, increasing in frequency and broadening in scope until it became the byword for living well. Today AD publishes nine international editions, as well as a website, and its brand has immeasurable influence in the world of interior design and style. On this journey, you will be joined by Mitchell Owens, AD’s Decorative Arts Editor. Owens has held editorial positions at leading newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, and has written about interior decoration, architecture, art and landscape design for publications ranging from The World of Interiors to Out, of which he was a founding editor. Long fascinated by Islamic architecture and design, Mitch and his family spent the early 2000s living in Marrakech, at a house in the medina that they called “Dar Cati.”
