Review

Set within the NamibRand Reserve, a privately owned 600-acre reserve that is never inhabited by more than 100 or so people, Wolwedans Dune Camp is a wonderfully remote desert hideaway. In fact, this is the spot where Brad and Angelina chose to escape off the grid with their two children.

The main lodge area consists of a dining room and library area with leather couches, books on the area’s flora and fauna and family photos of the owners. Thirteen tented suites fan out in a line from the main camp area and there is a collection of suites that can be taken over for complete privacy, as well as a small lodge. Morning and evening game drives are offered as are walks with locals who will reveal secrets of the desert including how to track animals and insects, locate water and understand seasonal cues from the flora and fauna. Unless guests take over the suites, meals are served in a communal style.

Who Should Stay

Those looking to relax and be completely off the grid. While Wolwedans does not have the same amenities as other Namibian properties such as Hoanib Skeleton Camp (there is no gym or spa, though guests can request in-room massages); and WiFi only works in the main lodge area), its wonderful location and serenity make it worth a visit.
