Experience one of the most intimate wildlife experiences in East Africa on this incredible eight-day discovery of Rwanda and its endangered mountain gorilla population.
What to Expect
Although most travelers are drawn to this land-locked African country to see the endangered mountain gorillas—a wildlife experience that is truly unlike any other—it is the resilient spirit of the Rwandan people and the beauty of the country’s landscapes that leave travelers with a sense of awe and a vow to return. In the words of Indagare founder Melissa Biggs Bradley: “Go see for yourself how a country can rebuild after a massacre; you cannot help but feel hope for humanity.”
This packaged Indagare Departures itinerary combines the best of our destination expertise, insider intel and special access—while allowing for flexibility and customization—to offer you an effortless and rewarding way to explore the world, starting with Rwanda.
On this eight-day adventure, you will get to trek to see the endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys in the magnificent Virunga peaks. You can also visit local communities to learn about the complex history of Rwanda, as well as modern conservation initiatives like anti-poaching units and reforestation nurseries; visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International’s Research Center to learn about the protection of the mountain gorillas and their environment; and enjoy the company of conservation specialists throughout your trip, including evening lectures with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International’s research director, Felix Ndagijimana, and community engagement manager, Sarah Tolbert.
Along the way, you will relax at two beautiful eco-luxury lodges that offer a variety of immersive wilderness and cultural activities—including traditional game drives, guided nature walks, boating excursions, fishing, birding and more—as well as pampering amenities: Magashi Camp (4 nights) and Bisate Lodge (3 nights).
