    4 Days: Essential Cape Town

This four-day itinerary balances exploration with touring and can be customized for special access, classes and more. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day 1: Intro to Cape Town

The ideal start to a Cape Town visit is a cable car trip up Table Mountain. As you ascend and at the top, take in the spectacular views of the entire city and beyond; there’s also a range of paths at the top leading to different lookouts over the peninsula. After lunch at a trendy restaurant on Bree Street, visit Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for decades. Arrange a tour conducted by former inmates to get an absorbing view of the not-so-distant past. Don’t miss a foodie-approved local restaurant for dinner.

    • Day 2: Hiking and Exploration

This morning, drive south to the Cape of Good Hope, the very tip of the African continent where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet, with a local guide. Take a guided hike, with panoramic cliff top views over the beaches, before stopping for a lunch at the famous Harbor House. Upon returning, Indagare can arrange an insider visit the District Six Museum, which describes the events that led to the Nationalist government proclaiming District Six a whites-only neighborhood in 1996.

    • Day 3: Shopping and Design

Spend today exploring Cape Town’s thriving design and shopping scene with a guide who can take you behind-the-scenes to the showrooms and ateliers of the city’s most innovative artisans. The tour begins with a visit to the Neighbourgoods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill, where you can stock up on locally-made food products as well as one-of-a-kind ceramics and crafts. After lunch, head to the V&A waterfront, a shipping port-cum-trendy downtown hub filled with happening restaurants and shops, including the famous Watershed Market.

    • Day 4: Winelands

No visit to Cape Town would be complete without a trip to the Winelands, just 45 minutes east of the city, and an astoundingly beautiful region of mountains and green valleys. Spend the day wine tasting and indulging in long lunches, or more active pursuits such as guided hiking and biking in the gorgeous countryside. The Winelands is home to the historic towns of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl, each with its own wine route where member wineries open their estates to the public. Indagare can arrange special tours and tastings at some of the area’s best, most innovative wineries.
