Olympia Café

136 Main Road, Cape Town 7990, South Africa

This slightly scruffy eatery opposite the Kalk Bay harbor makes possibly the city’s best bread and pastries, and the food that emerges from its tiny storefront kitchen (two cooks and a few burners) is wonderful, too. There are delicious egg dishes for breakfast and, for lunch, daily fresh fish from the harbor for lunch across the road. On weekends it gets extremely crowded, with long lines waiting for tables from mid-morning through mid-afternoon. I like to go early on a weekday morning and have breakfast in sunlit calm, then walk around the antiques and crafts shops in Kalk Bay.
