Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy is famous for its expertise in pure luxury, and its forays into the hotel and resort world are no exception. After finding success with its Courchevel property, the company opened Cheval Blanc Randheli, a resort in the Maldives, in 2013. The 46 thatched-roof villas designed by architect Jean-Michel Gathy—with all the chicness one would expect from LVMH creatives—seamlessly marry land and sea, with spectacular views, soaring ceilings, amazing bathrooms and elegant décor. Both the “Majordomes” and “Alchemists’” create guest experiences that range from dolphin cruises and island picnics to diving. For more relaxed moments there is the excellent Cheval Blanc Spa by Guerlain on a tiny separate island, as well as guided meditation and yoga practices. There are five dining options, including Diptyque, which serves Japanese fare, and the exquisite and formal Le 1947. And while this all seems like heaven for any adult, the property is also very family-friendly, with a kids‘ club, Le Carrousel, and its waterpark offering bespoke treats for the littles.

The Standout: The kids’ club (a novelty in this honeymoon-heavy destination) with nannying services for babies, treasure hunts for little kids and a surf simulator for teenagers

Don't Miss: A treatment at the Cheval Blanc Spa by Guerlain on its own island reachable via boat

Review

Wanting a tropical beach alternative for their deep-pocketed guests when they tire of too much snow in the Alps, Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy secured an island in the Noonu Atoll, which they have outfitted with 46 deluxe “maisons” planned to feel like lofts on the beach. Interior designer Jean Michel Gathy (also the visionary behind One & Only Reethi Rah) worked with the craftsmen in the LVMH stable to fashion furniture and accessories that showcase the artisan traditions behind the storied LVMH labels.

The attention to detail begins as soon as guests board the Cheval Blanc seaplane for their 40-minute flight to the resort, and continues with “experience alchemists” who focus on tailoring every holiday. The contemporary architecture of the villas makes the most of the stunning scenery with enormous glass doors and cathedral ceilings. In addition to the standard array of Maldivian water pursuits like diving, snorkeling, dolphin cruises, yacht trips and private picnics, there is a Guerlain Spa with an exclusive sun skin treatment.

Since families figure prominently in the Cheval Blanc target audience, Randheli has even created custom linens, furniture and drink menus for children. Their parents can choose from five dining options, including one overseen by three-Michelin-star chef Yannick Alleno. And of course, in respect to the LVMH heritage, the boutique on island is among the best in the country, with a selection of locally made artisan products, as well as limited-edition items from prized brands (guess which ones).
