Hazara
Hazara has been an Ulaanbaatar staple for over 15 years and is consistently one of the most popular restaurants in town. The restaurant serves Moghul Indian cuisine and takes great care in dishes like Tandoori chicken and chicken Tikka. Located in a small home off a side street, the atmosphere is warm and inviting with tables set into individual nooks under colorful tents. A second-story balcony circles the restaurant and provides additional seating. The staff is elegant and friendly, making for an all around enjoyable experience.
Tendo
Located in central Ulaanbaatar, Tendo is owned by David Locorotondo, a half-Italian, half-French local who was raised in Luxembourg and made his way to UB after falling in love with a Mongolian woman. After living in the city for over 10 years, he opened Tendo in 2013. His food is a delicious take on Mediterranean fare and his restaurant is bursting with personality and style—Locorotondo himself is hard to miss whether behind the bar or floating around the restaurant taking orders. Specials rotate on a daily basis and include homemade pastas, meats and fish. The wine selection is robust, especially considering the location.
