White Temple (Wat Rong Khun)

San Sai Mueang Chiang Rai District

Otherwise known as the White Temple, Wat Rong Khun was designed by acclaimed Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat and opened to visitors in 1997. As one of the most remarkable Buddhist temples in Thailand, this striking white structure is built with pieces of glass in plaster that sparkle in the sun. The temple can be overrun with tourists, so be sure to go early in the morning or before closing to best avoid crowds.
