Review

Located close to the Golden Triangle, this family-friendly property is ideal for those looking to immerse themselves in an elephant-focused experience.

The hotel’s 61 rooms and suites fall into three categories: deluxe rooms, one-bedroom suites with an open floor plan and the family suite (which is a combination of the two). Spacious accommodations are very comfortable; décor is simple and sophisticated, with dark wood accents, pops of warm color and Thai-inspired furnishings. Many rooms boast large bathtubs and balconies that overlook elephants roaming in the distance. As Anantara is built on a slight slope, those with mobility issues should request rooms on the flatter side of the property, closer to the lobby.

The hotel has two restaurants: the all-day eatery Sala Mae Nam and the more formal **Baan Dhalia,**where guests can choose between an Italian or Mediterranean menu. Anantara offers a variety of special dining experiences as part of the ‘Dining by Design’ program, which includes a meal overlooking the Mekong River or alongside elephants in bamboo forests.

The five-room Anantara Spa is another draw to the property, which boasts a gorgeous tree house-inspired setting. Treatments make use of both traditional Thai and modern methods and incorporate superb Elemis products. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the private al-fresco soaking tubs after their spa experience, as these are especially heavenly and offer great views of the Mekong.

The real appeal of Anantara, however, is the elephant camp on site. Guests have the option of walking with elephants and learning about the species in a classroom-like setting or becoming an elephant guardian and helping to prepare their food. The resort also offers many other activities including cooking and yoga classes, Royal Enfield side car rides and overnight stays in fully transparent Jungle Bubbles.

Who Should Stay

Anantara is ideal for families with young children who do not reach the minimum age requirement at the nearby Four Seasons (10 years) or those looking for a less romance-centric experience.
