Vietnam can be an intense destination with its plethora of foreign sights, smells and tastes around every turn. However, there is no better respite from the frenetic energy of Hanoi in the north and Ho Chi Minh City in the south than Amanoi, tucked away and spread across hundreds of acres along the coast. From the moment you enter the central pavilion of the property, you will feel your mind being put at ease. Take in the sounds of the waves crashing into the rocky shore, the sights of the tiny fishing village of Vinh Hy that looks much like it might have 50 years ago. Indulge in a spa treatment with their holistically trained, world-class team (try a Vietnamese cupping massage for something different) or a calming meditation session. In contrast to much of the country, time moves slowly here, allowing you to reflect on your journey throughout this part of the world.

The Standout: The immaculate beach club, where you can enjoy lunch or a swim in the pool while looking over the stunning Vinh Hy Bay Don’t Miss: The immersive wellness retreats lasting from three to 21 days, which can be focused on anything from detox and cleansing to mindfulness or even weight management and transformation

Review

Located 40 miles from the Nha Trang airport near the Nui Chua National Park, the Amanoi is one of the country’s top properties with outstanding design, impeccable service and a stunning location. The region’s landscape evokes memories of the rocky cliffs of Greece and upon arrival; the tiny fishing village of Vihn Hy looks as it must have 50 years ago.

The resort, which was designed by Jean-Michel Gathy, who also created Amanyara and the Cheval Blanc in the Maldives, created a dramatic welcome for guests with the resort’s central pavilion; it resembles a traditional Vietnamese communal hall and was built entirely without the help a cranes, an awe inspiring feat once you stand under the 40-foot ceilings. The pavilion has both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a bar, all of which have fantastic views out to Vinh Hy Bay and the South China Sea. The property consists of 31 one-bedroom pavilions and five Aman villas positioned throughout the hillside. While each pavilion is identical in construction, they differ slightly in views, pool placement and privacy. Interiors are sleek and contemporary, designed in a traditional Vietnamese architectural style and adhering to the typical Aman aesthetic of understated elegance. Bathrooms have double vanities, separate baths and indoor-outdoor showers. Living and sleeping spaces are one, opening out onto the pavilions’ teak deck, and are decorated in neutral tones and natural materials.

The spa has a central location and overlooks a small lake full of lotus flowers. The menu is extensive and local, natural ingredients are used for treatments that range from scrubs to facials to traditional massages. Two hydrotherapy suites complement the five treatment rooms, gym, Pilates studio and yoga pavilion. The highlight of the property, though, is the beach club, complete with a lap pool, beachside restaurant, non-motorized water sports and unbeatable views. Overall, the property is a perfect match for those looking to relax and enjoy the small pleasures of life like fresh seafood dinners, morning hikes, yoga, and simply relaxing.
