Review
Popular with jet-setters and families, the Albany delivers a unique concept of luxury living: this is not a resort, but a sophisticated, upscale community with exceptional amenities. A sleek residence community set on 600 acres of oceanside property, the Albany is located on the opposite side of the island from Baha Mar and Atlantis, a 20-minute drive from the airport.
Villas, condominiums and custom homes are available for short- and long-term rental. Options range from beachfront and garden villas to marina residences, which are apartment-style condominiums perched around a 71-slip yacht marina. All accommodations are individually designed, ranching from modern and sleek to old-school Bahamian and family-friendly. The Honeycomb residences, for instance, reside in a building designed by the lauded Bjake Ingels, the Danish architect responsible for the new World Trade Center Building. The undulating, ultra-contemporary facade resembles a honeycomb, and each residence has a private, glass-enclosed balcony pool.
The real reason guests return to the Albany is for the amenities. Guests have virtually everything at their fingertips, from an 18-hole golf course with a clubhouse and shop to a five-room spa with a sauna, nail salon, 15,000-sq.-ft. fitness center with a lap pool, cross fit and studio classes. There are tennis courts, a Kids’ Club with a massive waterpark, a movie theater and multiple shops including Dylan’s Candy Bar, a department store, Rolex and a gourmet market. There is even a professional music studio, a school and an equestrian center on site.
Though all accommodations offer fully-equipped kitchens, guests have their choice of several superb dining venues. Aviva is the resort’s atmospheric, fine-dining restaurant that hosts rotating chefs and has tables directly on the beach; while Azul is a stylish Mediterranean eatery surrounding the Albany’s adults-only pool and cabanas. Footprints is a family favorite, offering casual fare like sandwiches and seafood in a colorful dining room with a sand-topped floor. There is also a French patisserie, golf clubhouse, juice bar, lounge and several seasonal popups.
