Review

The newly revamped Dunmore Beach Club was once a private haven for the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and used to be an old-fashioned beach hotel where men wore jackets to dinner and pitchers of lemonade and plates of freshly baked cookies were provided daily. In 2010, the Dunmore Beach Club turned into the Dunmore, and today many connoisseurs consider it the best hotel on the island.

Designer and longtime Bahamian resident Amanda Lindroth updated the interiors of the guest cottages, which are grouped according to view: garden or sea. The décor is a whimsical mix of nostalgic island flair and updated seaside cottage, with sea fans, Lucite coffee tables, printed throws and cozy sitting areas. Each cottage comes with a small private patio.

The sexy pool is surrounded by black-and-white-striped lounge chairs and umbrellas, but the real winner here is the direct access to the pink sand beach where sea-grass-green umbrellas keep guests shaded. The restaurant, which is open to outside guests, is one of the island’s most acclaimed, especially for lunch. Diners sit inside the breezy dining room or on a terrace with sweeping ocean views. Most guests start their evening with Goombay Smash rum drinks at the hotel bar, chatting with the staff and other guests.
