Fatty Crab
New York’s favorite Malaysian eatery, known for its hip scene and spicy dishes, also has a location in downtown Cruz Bay. A must for lovers of Chef Zakary Pelaccio’s bold flavors and fun, rock n’ roll-fueled evenings.
La Tapa
Stop at La Tapa for a fun night out when you’re ready for a change of culinary pace. Instead of fish tacos and island burgers, La Tapa offers classic Spanish tapas and paellas as well as fresh seafood and meat dishes, prepared with more gourmet flair than expected from a small Caribbean island. The restaurant always has a buzzy scene and is a fun place to pass a night with a bottle of wine and good friends.
Miss Lucy’s
Set on Coral Bay, Miss Lucy’s is considered the best spot for trying authentic local cuisine, like callaloo soup. (Callaloo is a spinach-like green, usually cooked up with seafood.) Their Sunday brunch and Full Moon parties are local rituals.
Rhumb Lines
Although Rhumb Lines doesn’t have water views, this funky garden patio is a great place to grab a casual evening meal. The Thai-influenced dishes and rum punches are delicious, and worth enduring the slow service (friendly, but on Caribbean time). Kids run around while parents order a second round of daiquiris. Rhumb Lines is a favorite and a must for every trip to St. John.
Skinny Legs
Famous for its amazing burgers. One foodie friend told me the first time he tasted one, he had to order a second on the spot. Located in Coral Bay, on the east side of the island.
