Lay of the Land
The Amazon sits in the east of Ecuador and borders the Andes mountain range, home to the capital, Quito. The cloud forest is located in the Andean foothills to the northwest of Quito, and at a lower altitude. There are beautiful beaches along the Pacific coast and the Galapagos Islands are about 650 miles due west in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
Entry Requirements: The Ecuadorian government requires that all travelers entering the country carry proof of private health insurance coverage during their entire stay in mainland Ecuador and the Galapagos. If the traveler cannot provide proof of said insurance, Ecuadorian immigration officers can deny entrance to the country.
When to Go
While weather doesn’t vary much throughout the year, June through August is known to be Ecuador’s dry season.
