Maybourne Riviera

Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, French Riviera

The star brand behind Claridge’s, the Connaught and the Berkeley in London, as well as the Maybourne Beverly Hills, is expanding into the Mediterranean with the opening of Maybourne Riviera in the picturesque town of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. Perched on a cliffside overlooking the sea, with Italy to the east and Monte Carlo to the west, this modernist resort combines timeless glamour and laid-back coastal living with high-design contemporary vibrance. The 79 rooms and suites and public spaces were created in collaboration with local artisans as well as such global talents as André Fu, Bryan O’Sullivan Studio, Marcelo Joulia, Pierre Yovanovitch, Pascal Goujon and Rigby & Rigby—and the dining program was conceived by Mauro Colagreco (of the three-Michelin-starred Mirazur), Jean-Georges Vongerichten and the Japanese chef Hiro Sato. And, of course, the Riviera Playa beach club is not to be missed. Open nowRelated: Our Favorite Boutique Hotels in Paris

Blois, Loire Valley
This culinary-focused boutique hotel opening in the heart of the Loire Valley is the latest creation from the chef Christophe Hay of two-Michelin-starred La Maison d’à Côté. The project is equally focused on cuisine and sustainability, putting eco-friendly practices like rainwater collection, wind-powered energy and zero-waste kitchen design at its center—along with cultivating extensive gardens along the Blois-Vienne riverbank, including an asparagus conservatory and an apple conservatory with the intent to reestablish the historic rose apple. The property, which is housed within the former estate of King Louis XIII’s brother, will offer 44 rooms and suites, along with two restaurants, a swimming pool and a Sisley spa. Saint James Paris

Paris

Courtesy Hotel Saint James Paris

Though not brand-new, the historic Saint James Paris just completed a full redesign by Laura Gonzalez that has created a novel experience for visitors to the City of Light. Tucked away in a quiet corner of the 16th arrondissement, this whimsical 48-room hotel particulier surrounded by lush gardens is the only chateau hotel in Paris, and is a charming country-style retreat within the city. While all spaces share an eccentric and residential quality, no two rooms are the same. The property doubles as a private social club, adding to its appeal (lunch at the restaurant is reserved for members only). Parisians stop by for cocktails in the classically English library and to enjoy meals in the impressive dining room over which Michelin-starred chef Virginie Basselot resides. Her restaurant, Bellefeuille, has a gorgeous pergola bar with tables in the garden—perfect for summer dinners—and much of the produce is sourced from their garden outside the city. White wrought-iron furniture and tented gazebos (in the form of hot-air balloons) occupy the garden where guests and members can make themselves comfortable for aperitifs in the warmer months. Open now — Melissa Biggs Bradley

With interiors by local fixtures Francis Sultana and Francesco Delogu, and 50 keys (each unlocking its own balcony or terrace), a rooftop restaurant and bar (under the direction of chef Gennaro Esposito, of the two-Michelin-starred Torre del Saracino), a private beach club and pool deck, a spa and a selection of high-fashion boutiques, Hotel La Palma is poised to once again become the elegant, exclusive hub that, in its golden age, used to attract poets, artists and quaintrelles. Passalacqua

Lake Como, Lombardy
If you’re dreaming of a summer escape to Italy, the iconic Lake Como property Grand Hotel Tremezzo will welcome a sister resort just in time for the season. This 18th-century private villa overlooking the village of Moltrasio sits on land that was originally owned by Pope Innocent XI. The home has welcomed such visitors as Napoleon, Bellini (who composed two of his most famous operas, Norma and La Sonnambula, here) and the seasoned luxury traveler Winston Churchill. Now, under the stewardship of Paolo, Antonella and Valentina De Santis, Passalacqua will continue to offer a refined yet warm experience of northern Italian charms, with all the expected trappings (a lakeside tennis court, swimming pool and private dock with vintage boats) and just 24 suites, which feature restored frescoes, Verona marble bathrooms and delightful views of citrus and rose gardens, olive groves and sparkling emerald shores. If you’re lucky, you’ll manage to secure the Bellini suite—the largest on the entire lake—where the master preferred to practice the piano. Six Senses Rome

Rome, Lazio
Continuing the spa and wellness brand’s expansion into urban areas—and marking its grand arrival in Italy—Six Senses will debut its next property in the center of the Eternal City, within a UNESCO-protected 18th-century Baroque palazzo on the Piazza di San Marcello, just steps from the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon, as well as the shops of Via Condotti. The interiors were designed by the legendary Patricia Urquiola, with 95 guest rooms and suites, an open-kitchen trattoria and bar, a courtyard botanical garden and a rooftop terrace (with spectacular 360-degree views of the city and private dining spaces). One&Only Aesthesis

Glyfada, Athenian Riviera
After several years of lacking splashy luxury hotel options, Athens is finally welcoming a few resorts that can match the breathtaking properties of its surrounding islands. On the heels of the Four Seasons Astir Palace, which opened in 2019, the arrival of One&Only Aesthesis later this year will mark the first major development in the ancient capital since the pandemic, in a dramatic revival of a landmark resort on the Athenian Riviera that used to play host to the international jet set in the 1960s and ’70s. With a prime—and secluded—location on the Glyfada seafront, the One&Only will offer beach access with a private club, as well as a small forest reserve, creating a beautiful escape from the bustle (and tourists) of the city center. The 127 rooms, suites and private villas were designed in a contemporary, serene aesthetic, with midcentury pieces and a palette reflecting the natural colors of the Athenian landscape: cream, stone, beige, lavender and sage. The beach club and two on-site Greek restaurants will certainly provide a scene worth savoring, but other top experiences will include unwinding at the Chenot Spa, visiting the nearby thermal springs of Lake Vouliagmeni, hiking and boating along the coast of the Aegean and, as is tradition, diving deep into the staggering legacy of this mythical empire. IRELAND, SCOTLAND & ENGLAND

Cashel Palace

Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland

Courtesy Cashel Palace
Opened in March, Cashel Palace presents a new addition to Ireland’s collection of restored manor hotels—now in the central county of Tipperary, a rural area home to the famous Golden Vale pasturelands. Just a 10-minute walk from the region’s most significant monument—the Rock of Cashel, a medieval fortress—Cashel Palace is likewise steeped in history. It was built in 1732 as the home for the Church of Ireland archbishop, designed in the Palladian style by Sir Edward Lovett Pearce, one of the era’s most celebrated architects; another name of note attached to the property at this time was Richard Guinness, the resident brewmaster whose son would go on to found the namesake brewery in Dublin. The manor eventually left the church’s hands and became a luxury hotel in 1962, playing host to such icons as Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and Princess Diana, and it has now been given a new lease on life as a Relais & Châteaux member, with 42 bedrooms and suites, three acres of walled gardens, an upscale dining program and spa (including alfresco seaweed soaking baths) and a world-class equestrian program. Gleneagles Townhouse

Edinburgh, Scotland

In major hotel headlines, a city-chic sister to the Indagare-adored (and Indagare Index) property Gleneagles, a sprawling pastoral playground in the Scottish Highlands, will open this spring in Edinburgh—marking the first addition to the iconic brand in nearly a century. Housed within one of the oldest buildings on St. Andrew Square and featuring just 33 rooms, Gleneagles Townhouse promises an intimate, in-the-know experience (and it will also be home to a members-only club). The townhouse, which was a former bank, was carefully restored by Ennismore Design Studio—and with this reincarnation, no two rooms will look the same. Historic details like canopy crown headboards, antique lighting and original fireplaces ensure the sense of tradition that travelers to Scotland crave, while a contemporary, buzzy restaurant, The Spence, and rooftop bar, as well as a collection of modern artwork, will bring the townhouse into the 21st century in style. Open now
