Skiing in Lech

General Tips

You should definitely reserve a ski guide from one of the Arlberg ski schools. Contact the Indagare Bookings Team to arrange one. It is easy—and wonderfully dramatic—to ski between Lech, Zürs, Zug and Oberlech, but the first day or two it would be helpful to have a guide point out the best runs.

If you are coming from the States, you will want to have a car pick you up at the airport in Zurich. I would suggest bringing ski boots, if you have them, but renting skis. It can be difficult to find comfortable boots, but you can always rent excellent skis. There are good rental shops in the center of town.

Where to Eat

Lunch:Sporthotel Lorünser

, Zürs has a pine-paneled restaurant with simple, hearty Austrian food. Hotel Goldener Berg or the Gasthof Alpenblick in Oberlech – if the weather is nice, these are great places for outdoor dining. Delicious wiener schnitzle and spaetzle, and lively atmospheres. If it’s too cold to eat outside, Goldener Berg has more tables. Hotel Krone, Lech has a nice location on the banks of the river. Again, the food is hearty, simple. The tables outside are better than the inside ones. Hotel Zürserhof, the chic hotel in Zürs has gotten a bit too fancy to be fun with kids, but the food is good.

Dinner: You should probably have the concierge make reservations for you, especially during the holiday times. Gasthof Post Restaurant has pretty rooms, good food, strolling accordion players and lots of atmosphere. Hotel Auriga, which is near the skating pond, has a very good menu and a nice, casual atmosphere. Hotel Schneider can be a nice place to go for a drink after dinner, though it sometimes draws a flashy crowd.

The Klösterle in Zug is located in a 400-year-old building. There’s lots of charm and good food. Also in Zug, Hotel Rote Wand is a little more commercial than the Klösterle, but they will send a horse-drawn sleigh for you and take you under heaps of blankets through the covered bridge to the restaurant. Good fondue. Hotel Alpenhof (also in Zug), to which you can also take a horse-drawn sleigh, is another wonderful ancient guesthouse/farmhouse with ambiance and delicious food.

Shopping

Strolz

in Lechis is the place to go for glamorous ski wear and custom ski boots. Their selection of ski suits is fantastic with all of the well-known labels as well as some fabulous new finds. It’s right in the main square.
