Favorite Finds: Vienna

Vienna is full of shopping treasures, among which are some not-to-be-missed iconic souvenirs and stylish finds. Here, Indagare rounds up six items worth seeking out in the Austrian capital.

Sacher Café: Sachertorte

Visit Vienna’s legendary Sacher Café to sample the original Sachertorte —layers of chocolate cake joined by a thin layer of apricot jam and coated with a shiny chocolate glaze — served mit Schlag (with whipped cream).

Die Sellerie: chic design items

Founded by four graphic designers, Die Sellerie sells thoughtfully curated pieces, including stationery, wrapping paper, fine-art prints and decorative objets.

Das Möbel: cool furniture

This funky café-cum-design-store sells bold and mismatched furniture, from twin-seat bar stools to sculpted low chaises.

Lobmeyr: glassware

In the 19th century, Lobmeyr was the imperial court’s official glassmaker. Today its namesake shop stocks most of its lines, including elegant glassware and porcelain.

Rudolf Scheer: shoes

This shoemaker has been keeping the Viennese elite stylishly shod since 1816. The firm produces only 300 pairs each year, in distinctly different styles and leathers.

Wiener Silber Manufactur: silver

This atelier, founded in the 19th century, creates silver cutlery, centerpieces and other decorative pieces in new as well as classic designs, which range from very traditional to Secessionist and Art Deco.
