Meierei

The more casual sister restaurant of the award-winning Steirereck, also located in the Stadtpark, has a large terrace and patio and serves some of Vienna’s most sophisticated Austrian-inspired food (it’s open for lunch and dinner, but true aficionados go for the lengthy, hearty breakfast). It’s a beautiful setting, and the service and cuisine are more refined than at a traditional café, but the menu also features Austria’s bounty—mushrooms, cheeses, homemade breads, schnitzel, wine—in an uncomplicated and unfussy manner. Along with Café Landtmann, this is a solid Vienna go-to for a truly memorable Austrian meal. Don’t miss ordering the Kaiserschmarrn (a fluffy crêpe-like dessert served with tart cherry compote); it’s a Viennese specialty and the Meierei serves the city’s best. Open daily.
