Review

Copenhagen's grande dame, the Hotel D’Angleterre reopened in 2013 after the property underwent two years of intensive renovation. The hotel, which is set in an 18th-century building, boasts an enviable location in the historic city center and overlooks the King’s New Square. Many of Copenhagen's best restaurants and shops—as well as the Strøget, which is Europe’s longest pedestrian shopping street—are within walking distance of the front doors.

All 92 rooms, including 60 spacious suites, are decorated in a modern yet elegant style with cool grays and silvers as well as touches of purple, the owner's favorite color. High ceilings, intricate moldings and the original sconces reflect the property’s history as one of the city’s oldest hotels.

In the basement, the expansive spa is one of the largest in the city, complete with a fitness center and indoor pool as well as products from Amazing Space. The hotel is also home to Michelin-starred restaurant Marchal and Balthazar, a hot-spot Champagne bar. While the property is by far the grandest in Copenhagen, it is still inviting and accessible, a specific balance that the best of Scandinavian cities manage to achieve in spades.

Who Should Stay

For families or those traveling in a large group who need to be in the center of the city, the Hotel D’Angleterre offers a five-star experience in both service and accommodation.
