Hotel Sanders

A game-changer for Copenhagen’s hotel scene, boutique Hotel Sanders opened in 2017 to high acclaim in the heart of Copenhagen.

For a long time, Copenhagen was a design city lacking a fabulous, design-focused hotel. All that changed in 2017, however, when Hotel Sanders opened in the city center (and down the street from grand dame Hotel D’Angleterre). The property, owned by Royal Danish Ballet dancer, filmmaker and designer, Alexander Kølpin, is a study in Danish design of the past and present—and is a supremely comfortable hotel.

The 54 rooms and suites feature stylish elements like rattan woven headboards, muted-toned furniture upholstered in leather and sumptuous fabrics and thoughtful touches, like beautiful light fixtures, side tables and rugs. The style is inspired by the owner’s travels and manages the difficult feat of bringing together international elements without feeling like a hodge-podge. The location couldn’t be better, down the street from the Royal Danish Theatre, where owner Alexander once danced, and walking distance from both the historic city center and Christianhavn. Visitors will spend the majority of their days and evenings out and about exploring Copenhagen, but there are some fabulous dining and cocktails options within the hotel. Sanders Kitchen on the ground floor is open for meals throughout the day and serves an excellent traditional Danish breakfast. The ground-floor bar, Tata, is cozy and traditional in feel, particularly with the fireplace roaring. In warmer months, the courtyard is a lovely option for a meal or drink.
