Highgrove
Prince Charles went into retail (in 2010) with this grocery and gift store in Tetbury. You’ll find everything here from organic leeks and potatoes to posh soaps.
Stroud Farmers’ Market
The clue is in the name of course, but Britain’s old market towns all developed around a central market square. These public retail areas have waxed and waned over the years, but Stroud Farmers’ Market is a thriving example of the best local produce from the surrounding area selling straight to the consumer. There are no middle men, no hours in transport, just over sixty stalls spilling over with ripe fruit and vegetables, meats, and cheeses alongside cooked food and local crafts.
Upton Smokery Shop
Hidden down a country road and set on a farm where proprietors Chris and Vix Mills live is the Upton Smokery Shop, a one-stop shop that elevates one’s soul as much as one’s pantry. Smoked meat, game and fish of the highest quality are, of course, available; shoppers, however, may not expect the wide range of other items they’ll find on the shelves: homegrown, seasonal fruits and vegetables, homemade pâtés and potted foods, oils, vinegars and wines. The smokery supplies not only the public, but also pubs, restaurants and hotels.
