The Beaumont Hotel

For years, restaurant owners Jeremy King and Chris Corbin have created restaurants where they would like to eat, including such London institutions as the Wolseley and Delaunay. In 2014, the talented duo branched out by designing a hotel where they would like to stay—the utterly chic Beaumont hotel on a quiet square in Mayfair.

Originally constructed in 1926 to serve as the garage for Selfridges department store, the Beaumont building is elegantly Art Deco with a pre-World War II aesthetic. Taking center stage is the Colony Grill Room sporting leather banquettes, blood-red 1930's antique furniture and original murals by American artist John Mattos. The distinctly American menu here offers classic New York dishes like shrimp cocktail, pastrami Reubens and hot dogs. And while most of the hotel’s dining spaces are available to the general public, the Cub Room is exclusively for hotel guests.

The 72 Art Deco–inspired rooms and suites have bronze mirroring, shagreen details, black-and-white marble mosaic bathroom floors, bronze door handles and original artwork dating from the late 19^th-century to the 1940s. Jeremy King likes to mix tradition with a splash of modernism, and the design team achieved just that with Antony Gormley's ‘Room’. The three-story high commissioned sculpture on the hotel's façade by Turner Prize–winning sculptor Antony Gormley resembles a cuboid crouching man from the outside. But once inside, ‘Room’ is a monastic, Bavarian oak–clad bedroom suite accessed via a black curtain from a starkly contrasting white marble bathroom. While the interior of  ‘Room’ is only 12 feet wide, its 30-foot high ceilings with a single skylight create a sense of space.

Taking its cue from Turkish baths, the small Beaumont gym and spa feature marble mosaic floors, a white marble hammam with dry heat and steam and therapy rooms. Like Corbin and King’s restaurants, the Beaumont is big on service and bespoke, thoughtful touches. All rooms have king-size beds, daily-replenished complimentary snacks and free Wi-Fi. Not all bathrooms have tubs, so bath lovers should specifically request rooms with them.
