La Café Comptoir
With bleached wood paneling, white ceramic deer heads and chalkboard menus, Le Café Comptoir is the hipster’s take on Chamonix ski chic. Located in a rustic cabin at the bottom of the ski area in Vallorcine, this trendy spot is popular among both locals and tourists. The fresh, organic food is often accompanied by folksy music provided by resident bands, adding to the laidback vibe.
La Maison Carrier
Located in the Hameau Albert 1er hotel, La Maison Carrier feels like a French grandmother’s cozy chalet. With exposed wooden beams, an open kitchen and gingham tablecloths, the restaurant harks back to a Chamonix of a previous era. To accompany the restaurant’s rustic menu there is a selection of delicious cheeses, homemade chocolates and regional wines. The adventurous should order the grilled pigs trotters, chicken liver paté or the calf head in spicy herb sauce.
Monkey
Quirky and loud, Monkey is Gallic cool done exactly right. The perfect place to bring kids (who will certainly love the in-house ping pong tables and live music), this dive is all about pure fun. The menu isn’t the most elevated (think gourmet burgers), but the selection of craft beers and rollicking ambiance makes up for it.
