    7 Days: Essential Corsica

With its two distinctive regions—Cap du Sud and Haute Corse—the island of Corsica is best explored in a week that entails seaside exploration and relaxing at one of the many charming boutique hotels.

    • Day 1-2

Arrive in Calvi and check in at La Villa, in a room with a view of the Calvi Citadelle. Explore the small port city, which has some nice shops and cafes/bars. Book your first dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant of La Villa. The next day, hire a boat to take you to the hidden coves of the Desert des Agriates, a beautiful protected area accessible only on foot, via 4WD or boat. Or road trip along the coast to visit such seaside towns as L’Ile Rousse and Saint Florent, both of which have wonderful restaurants in their port and some cute shops.

    • Day 3-4

Day trip along the Route des Artisans, passing through such towns as Pigna, Lumio and Corbara, for discovering small workshops producing ceramics, olive oils and jewelry. This can also be combined with touring some wineries in this wine-producing region.

On day 4, transfer to the southwestern Domaine de Murtoli to spend the remainder of your time in Corsica at a private villa on an expansive farm estate. The long-ish drive
(~4 hours) can be broken up by visiting the hilltop town of Corte and with a late lunch at the acclaimed Auberge à Pignata, for an excellent Corsican meal.

    • Days 5-7

Relax on the spectacular property of Domaine de Murtoli, which has a beautiful beach, a golf course and acres to explore on foot or on bike. There are also day trip options to visit Bonifacio, Sartene and surrounding wineries.

“The sandy shores of the Grand Hotel de Cala Rossa, in southern Corsica, was a quiet spot that reminded me more of Fiji than France. It was castaway heaven.”
    Elena Bowes, member since 2007
Indagare’s Marley Lynch
“Corsica is best seen by boat due to its rapidly changing landscapes—the rugged peaks of the north, red granite mountains on the western coastline, and powdery white-sand beaches of the south.”
