Review
Passing through imposing gates and winding down its tree-lined driveway, Cap Estel’s quiet sophistication is engulfing. Built as a private summer home in 1898 and converted to a hotel in 1950, the maison has managed to maintain its charm and serene home-like qualities. Today the property offers an oasis for those seeking a quietly glamorous experience set apart from (but still providing access to) the buzz of the Riviera. The four-acre property sits on its own peninsula jutting out into the sea between Monaco and Cap Ferrat.
The current owner still uses the property as his home during much of the summer, but when he is not keeping the domain to himself, it is possible to check into one of the 28 rooms or suites. The grandest rooms are in the main house and the most special, the Sea Rooms "La Mer," are built into the rocks above the beach. Updated stylish interiors compliment the classic structure of the building including marble floors, Doric columns and grand sea-view balconies. The hotel boasts a salt-water infinity pool, private pebble beach, state-of-the-art spa and extensive gardens that welcome exploring. Guests can enjoy refined Mediterranean cuisine in the Michelin-starred restaurant in a tranquil setting under the stars. For more casual dining, visit "Le Ficus," a poolside restaurant serving Mediterranean fare.
Considering what a magical private paradise this is, it is not surprising that many families return every year or that those who come for a meal end up booking a future stay. If you aren’t friends with Elton John, Tina Turner or someone else who owns an amazing villa in the South of France who can invite you to stay, then checking in here is as close as it gets to that experience.
Who Should Stay
Those who want a modern Gatsby experience of the South of France and those who want easy access to Monte Carlo without staying in Monaco.
