Review

The guests here vary from movie stars to slick playboys to fashionistas sporting hot pants and cowboy boots. That’s part of the fun, though, because as exclusive as the place is, the spirit is bon enfant and not in the least pretentious—thanks in part to the friendly, ultra-professional staff.

Splurge on one of the extravagant duplexes or suites, some of which have private terraces. If you’re an inveterate people-watcher, book the Missoni Home Suite, which has a big sitting room directly above the inner courtyard and the pool. The Missoni is the most luxurious suite at Byblos and as the largest in the hotel, was recently refurbished by Italian luxury brand Missoni Home.

Four to six rooms are refreshed each year at Byblos, so you’ll want to request one of the recently renovated options. The amenities are modern and the rooms are bright and airy; each room varies in design and color scheme, in some you'll find clean, cool hues, while in others you will find metallics and warm tones. Overall though, the design is unique, if a touch eccentric. While Byblos is a glamorous, five-star property, the hotel is a notch under La Reserve and Cheval Blanc in terms of sheer luxury.

Hotel Byblos truly is its own charming Tropezienne, hilltop village. Some guests rarely venture outside the hotel for days, and for good reason. There are multiple superb restaurants and a renowned night club, Les Caves du Roy on the property. On top of this all, the spa offers a choice of massages and treatments, including the Ultimate Byblos anti-aging treatment. The social pool scene is the heartbeat of the hotel—if you are there, you are there to be seen.

Giving guests a reason to venture off property, Byblos recently opened Byblos Beach, its own beach club on Pampelonne. The club is serving delicious Mediterranean fare in a relaxed atmosphere and the service from the hotel seems to have followed the brand down to the beach.
