Review
Casual sophistication with a local touch is the hallmark of France’s new breed of luxury bed and breakfasts. The décor at La Dixmeresse is fresh and unfussy and the service is thoughtful, as owners are happy to share their knowledge of local insider spots.
This elegant courtyard compound consists of the five-bedroom guesthouse inn plus the main house that contains the reception, lounge and table d’hôte dining areas. Every detail here—from the pretty Rosenthal breakfast china to the Cristal de Sevres glassware to Le Jacquard Français bath linens—showcases the hotel’s contemporary country French art de vivre.
In the guesthouse, each airy room has a comfortable seating and desk area and is named after a cultural figure who lived or worked in the Loire Valley. The William Turner room is especially romantic, decorated in white and beige hues with a fanciful chandelier and French windows. The two-bedroom family suite boasts a freestanding claw-foot tub.
The owners are happy to prepare a family-style table d’hote dinner upon request in their spacious country kitchen. There, guests are invited to join them for aperitifs before dining at the long farm table. Another nice touch: the chefs use local products in meals and practice environmental sustainability in all aspects of the property, from energy conservation to natural gardening.
