Review

The Sibuet family hotels are the best in Megève, and Les Fermes de Marie is the oldest, grandest and largest. Its 71 guestrooms spread throughout eight antique chalets are warm and stylish, boasting a down-to-earth yet world-class vibe. Les Fermes de Marie is the kind of family-friendly and totally comforting property that makes guests feel like they’re staying in a private chalet and their fellow guests are just close friends they’ve yet to make.

In 1989, nine separate mountainside chalets were taken apart, documented, transported to Megève and rebuilt to house the hotel’s restaurants, spa and gorgeous guest rooms. Anyone who experiences the hotel will agree: the old wood tells a story of its past, holding together Megève’s most beloved hotel and before that, family farmhouses. That the rooms today house movie stars and chic Parisians cuddled under opulent fur throws is appropriate.

The hotel has two refined restaurants, Traditionnel, which serves old-fashioned, formal cuisine from the region, and the downstairs Restaurant Alpin, specializing in fondue, charcuterie plates and dessert treats like tarte aux myrtilles (blueberry tart). The rambling, comfortable lobby bar is a great spot for après ski and for coffee and snacks throughout day and night.

The subterranean Spa Pure Altitude, consisting of 17 treatment rooms, an indoor pool, sauna, hammam and gym, specializes in handling ailments or issues caused by high altitude. The spa utilizes alpine plants and extracts in the products it makes in-house.

Two chalets managed by the hotel are available for rent. Chalet des Fermes, located on the property, can sleep 10 people in its five double rooms, and boasts a great lounge, dining room and terrace with stunning views. Chalet Chatel is not in the Fermes de Marie area, but in the small village of Les Choxeaux. It too has five bedrooms and comfortable public spaces, ideal for a large family or group of friends traveling together.

Unlike many properties in Megève, Les Fermes de Marie is open year-round.

Who Should Stay

Les Fermes de Marie is the best hotel option in Megeve but is only for guests whose don’t mind taking the hotel car to the ski lifts. Those who would prefer to walk to ski lifts should stay at the Sibuet property Le Lodge Park, or the new M de Megève, both located in the center of town.
