From its picturesque farms and pastures, to the simultaneously modern and ancient urban centers, there is a strong respect for the past in Normandy. This collective bond to history is not nostalgic or retroactive, but rather an appreciation for the endurance of previous generations and lives.

    5 Days: Essential Normandy

Normandy is huge—both physically and in terms of its historical significance. Your Indagare specialist can craft a customized itinerary that makes the most of your time in the region, with guided touring of the landing beaches and special access classes such as cooking at Stephen Carbone. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day 1-2

Begin your trip by at Mont-St.-Michel, a majestic island named for the monastery perched at its highest point. The next day, visit to the Landing Museum in Arromanches, then walk up to the 360 Museum, where you can enjoy the view from the top before watching the powerful documentary on D-Day. Explore the seaside area before lunch in Barfleur. From here, you may continue to explore D-Day sites like the Ste-Mère-Église church and the Musée Airborne, or you may drive to Bayeux for the Notre-Dame Cathedral and medieval history touring.

    • Day 3-4

Soak in the significance of the humbling American Cemetery and memorial with one of Indagare’s preferred guides, who will then escort you to Pont du Hoc to explore the outdoor bunkers and relive the stories of American Rangers. In the afternoon, Indagare can arrange a private tour of Utah Beach Landing Museum. The next day, visit Eglise St.-Etienne in the morning, and stop at the Normandy Memorial Center for History and Peace on the outskirts of Caen. After lunch, drive to Deauville, the chic coastal resort town. Its Sunset Boulevard is perfect for shopping.

    • Day 5

Finish off your tour with a trip to Rouen, the capital of Normandy and the self-proclaimed birthplace of Impressionism. Stroll through the town’s lovely churches and marketplaces, sampling local flavors and picking up last-minute gifts. On your way back to Paris, don’t miss Giverny: the home of Claude Monet.

“The D-Day sites were interesting, with the American Cemetery being the highlight for me. Our group enjoyed two days of D-Day sites, and I liked the Bayeux tapestry and the Bayeux Notre Dame Cathedral.”
