Melissa's Travels

Melissa Biggs Bradley's Secret Salons in Paris

As many of the shops in the St. Germain and St. Honoré areas can be found in the U.S., I love visiting by-appointment-only salons in Paris where clothes and accessories are small-batch or custom-made. Here are nine of my favorites–new and old.

Paris Fashion & Jewelry Salons

Schiaparelli Salons Boutique

Thanks to Diego Della Valle and Daniel Roseberry, the brand from visionary Elsa Schiaparelli (a contemporary of Coco Chanel) is once again creating iconic pieces. The glamorous Schiaparelli Salons Boutique is inside Elsa’s former apartment on Place Vendome.

Rianna + Nina

Berlin-based Rianna + Nina adds a flourish of color to the shops at Palais Royal, where they've transformed a former art gallery into their first flagship store. The boutique has ready-to-wear items as well as pieces made from vintage scarves.

Bäumer Vendôme

For whimsical fine jewelry, Bäumer Vendôme is a must. Founder Lorenz Bäumer opened his own brand after launching jewelry collections for Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Today, he’s the only independent jeweler on Place Vendome, and his pieces—which usually incorporate surprising mechanical customizations—are always gorgeous.

Andrew Gn

Singapore-born, England- and Italy-educated Andrew Gn draws global inspiration for his haute couture clothing. You may find some of his pieces in specialty stores around the world, but I recommend starting at the source: his exquisite, light-filled private salon in the Marais.

Salon Septième

This salon near the Champ de Mars works with the finest mills in France—the same ones that often supply Hermès and Chanel—for its bespoke creations. Though fashion executive Nancy Pedot, Salon Septième’s founder, is American-born, her designs (choose from various fabrics, colors and styles) are quintessentially French.

Paris Home Goods & Stationery Salons

Three Seven Paris

Each of the housewares on display at Three Seven Paris is hand-crafted in the workshop at the back of the Left Bank store. Meant for everyday use, the customizable pieces are functional but undeniably fine.

Antoinette Poisson

Visit Antoinette Poisson for wallpaper, fabrics, stationery and tableware made using an ancient printing technique known as domino paper. The brand’s signature look is inspired by 18th-century botanical prints.

Benneton Graveur

Benneton Graveur

is one of my favorite destinations in the world for stationery. The paper here—often decorated with animals and vibrant colors—makes for perfect note cards.

R&Y Augousti

Furniture, containers and clutches from R&Y Augousti all have two things in common: they all showcase exotic leathers, and they’re all statement pieces. Case in point: shagreen side tables with a matching jewelry box.
