Place des Vosges is the oldest square in Paris, and the heart of the Marais, the city’s oldest neighborhood. The 17th-century buildings bordering the plaza feature a vaulted arcade, an elegant walkway for pedestrians and are home to cafés and galleries. On the north side of the square, a subtle sign etched in stone announces the hotel, and another arched passage leads guests to the expansive courtyard of the Pavillon de la Reine. The grand Henri IV–style façade is cloaked in ivy, with red geraniums overflowing from the window boxes. On warm days, a few guests always seem to find themselves paralyzed in this sanctuary, despite the charming neighborhood steps away.

Moving indoors, the lobby and common spaces of the first floor feel like the comfortable library-esque living spaces of a members-only club. Expect contemporary takes on French classics like filet of sole and streak frites, plus a four-course, carte-blanche tasting menu; while curated room service offerings incorporate elevated comfort food like truffle croque-monsieur.

Those who want the personality and buzz of a dynamic neighborhood and a boutique residential feel and don't need pampering service. Couples and small families will both be happy. The close proximity to the Musée Picasso, Centre Pompidou, and many of Paris’ finest galleries makes it an ideal hotel for art aficionados.
