Considered by some to be Paris’ version of New York’s Frick or Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner, this is a gem of a museum. The historic mansion, which displays paintings by Rembrandt, Botticelli, Fragonnard and other masters, transports you to life during the late 1800s/early 1900s, at which time it was home to Edouard André and Nélie Jacquemart, an artist herself. The couple traveled the world collecting art, with annual trips to Italy and several to the Middle East, and they frequently entertained when in Paris. Nélie Jacquemart outlived her husband by almost 20 years and continued to travel, embarking on a world tour in 1902. In her will, she bequeathed her home and art to the Institut de France to create a public museum, specifying where each piece of art should be displayed. The museum can now be rented out for private cocktail or dinner parties as well as wedding receptions.
