    3 Days: Essential Munich

Enjoy the easy charm of Munich with a customized itinerary that balances guided tours of the city’s unique architecture, special access to museums, solo exploration, day trips, and more. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day One: Old Town

Relax into the pace of Munich and explore the historic sites, starting with St. Peter’s Church and its viewing tower. Next, make your way to Marienplatz and see the famous Gothic Glockenspiel come to life. After lunch at an Indagare-recommended neighborhood spot and a stroll through the Fünf Höfe shopping arcade, you can choose from a variety of guided tours that feature the impressive Residenz, the Kunsthalle’s art exhibits, or the open-air market.

    • Day Two: Kunstreal and Gardens

After indulging in a breakfast bread basket at Manufactum’s Brot und Butter, take a twenty-minute walk to the museum quarter, Kunstreal. There, you will find fine artwork from all different periods, ranging from the German Expressionists to the private Brandhorst collection, which includes pieces by Warhol, Basquiat and Hirst. Reserve the afternoon for enjoying Munich’s gardens—be they botanical or beer-related.

    • Day Three: Nymphenburg Palace

Start the day with a quick drive through the Bavarian countryside to the famous Schloss Nymphenburg, a Baroque palace set on a sprawling 500 acres. Don’t miss the 18th century Amalienburg hunting lodge and its enchanting hall of mirrors, or the lovely porcelain manufactory. After lunch at the nearby Hirschgarten restaurant, you can make your way back to Munich for an afternoon of shopping in the upscale Schwabing neighborhood before dinner.

“My most recent trip revealed once again why the city should top the list of a Germany visitor, or those eager to explore the stunning landscapes between southern Germany and Austria…Travelers will fall for the city’s easy charm and, perhaps, ultimately leave agreeing with the locals that life in this German city is…well, pretty sweet.”
