On an island where traditional tavernas and white-tableclothed restaurants reign supreme, Catch is an anomaly, with a sleek, stylish interior and serving beautifully plated, innovative dishes. The stunning, open-air dining room is accented by lush greenery and vibrant flowers. Tables are centered around the bar, above which hangs a white, nest-like light fixture. The rooftop alcove is the best spot for sunset dining thanks to the stunning panoramic views it offers. The cuisine is Mediterranean fusion, and includes traditional dishes with surprising twists—Catch’s take on spinach pie comes deconstructed (spinach mousse, feta foam) and served in a mason jar. Other menu items might include octopus with fava beans, scallops with saffron and beetroot marshmallows, red mullet risotto and the particularly delicious “pastichio,” a lasagna-like dish of beef ragout, San Michali cheese and allspice. The setting feels more Miami than Greek Isle, and despite having a somewhat obscure location in Oia town, the restaurant provides an oasis from the bustling streets.

Franco’s Cafe

Franco Colombo is a local legend. Franco’s Bar in Fira—famous for its operatic sunsets—still bears his name, but the adored chef has moved on to Pyrgos, the highest village on Santorini. His new café is located on the square just beneath the Venetian castle that crowns the village. The views are phenomenal, especially as the sun sinks into the distant sea. Simple choices include iced coffee, cakes and cocktails.

Hassapiko

One of the only nightlife options in sleepy Oia, Hassapiko has been the bar of choice for locals and visitors since opening in a former butcher’s shop in 1991. Known for playing lively music from the 1970s and 1980s, the institution is perfect for a low-key drink before or after dinner.

Bar at Koukoumavlos, Santorini, Greece

This restaurant overlooking the caldera serves consistently innovative and delicious cuisine. Some dishes are traditional Greek, like kataifi (a white cheese wrapped in angel hair pasta flavored with rose petals) while others showcase the chef’s interest in French, Italian and Spanish flavors. Mr. E at Hotel Istoria

Mr. E is the restaurant at Hotel Istoria on Perivolos Beach in Santorini, and is not to be missed. Diners can expect an inventive menu by lauded chef Alex Tsiotinis, offering farm-to-table dishes (vegetables are sourced from a nearby garden), fresh bread made on site and of course a fabulous wine list showcasing Greek varietals.

Sea Side

With the laid-back nature of Montauk and the happening beach club–style of nearby Mykonos, Sea Side is a cool restaurant-bar-hangout on Perivolos beach. The alfresco lounge, located on a stretch of black sand beach, hums to the beat of the DJ and has an elevated beach chic aesthetic, with low-slung wicker chairs, vibrant glassware and posh black-and-white–striped recliners. The restaurant serves scrumptious fare including crispy honey garlic salmon with noodles, tuna tartar, moussaka and chicken schnitzel, as well as items from the sushi bar. The beverage service includes a large selection of fresh juices and cocktails, both of which can be enjoyed cabana-side.

The beach area is filled with sun chairs, but the best pieces of real estate are the waterfront pavilions that look directly onto the water. While most patrons are content to relax, read and swim, Sea Side can also arrange water sports, or guests can indulge further at the boutique and spa, which offers massages, facials and reflexology treatments.

Note: It is highly recommended to make cabana reservations in advance. The cabanas by the water are the best and book up.
