In the well-traveled triangle of Vienna-Prague-Budapest, the Hungarian city is still treated like the little sister. It’s certainly less polished, but also more authentic, and discovering its secrets is a bit of an adventure but one that is infinitely rewarding.

  • 3 Days: Essential Budapest-LP

    3 Days: Essential Budapest

Experience the best of the Hungarian capital with a customized itinerary that includes special access and guided touring. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day One: Historical Budapest

Budapest’s Liberty Monument, visible from afar, is a reminder of the city’s long occupation. Such a rich and complex history has given Budapest a wealth of wonderful museums, like Castle Hill and the House of Terror. Indagare can arrange tours of these sites, during which your expert guide will give you a deeper understanding of the streets through which you travel. After a late lunch at an Indagare-recommended restaurant, you will have some time to shop Budapest’s many boutiques and high-end ateliers and stroll through charming neighborhoods like Old Town.

    • Day Two: Cruise on the Danube

Even more so than Prague or Vienna, Budapest is a city ruled by water. The Danube River divides the former sovereign townships of hilly Buda and flat Pest, which are engaged in an age-old dialogue across the rushing waters. Whether you choose to start your day with a river cruise or save it for sunset, you will take in stunning views. Today, your guide can also help you choose among Budapest’s many cultural gems: the Palace of Arts, Omorovicza, Matthias Church or Gozdu Court. Afterwards, enjoy dinner at a gourmet restaurant.

    • Day Three: Budapest Today

Budapest is a city in motion, and the mood is one of optimism and vibrancy. Get a taste of what modern life here is like with a guided tour through the city’s up-and-coming Jewish Quarter and the ruin bars: cheap watering holes that have been transformed into Dr. Seuss-like havens for street art by the younger generation. We also highly recommend seeing the incredibly colorful Dohány synagogue. In the afternoon, stop by the famous, buzzing thermal baths of Széchenyi and enjoy a few cocktails before dinner.

In Budapest, buildings and bridges are spectacularly lit, and stunning to take in from the water.  A river cruise through Hungary may seem to be an effortless vacation, but it works the mind and stirs the soul.”

“Such raw beauty is a rare occurrence; nowhere else have I seen such a purity that is inherently contradictory. The walls of Budapest, fought over and seemingly left unattended, are both a testament to the trials of the Hungarian people and a symbol of their resilience.”
