Review

Located across from Dublin’s government buildings, The Merrion Hotel offers a contemporary take on classic luxury. Yes, the interior décor here is traditional in keeping with the buildings’ historic roots as 18th-century Georgian townhouses; and the elegant and effortless service is all about old world class. But amenities were thoughtfully developed with the needs of a modern-day traveler in mind.

The 142 spacious guest rooms are swathed in light colors and subtle plaid and floral patterns, giving them a relaxed but refined atmosphere, with Irish antiques adding the finishing touches. High-tech features such as flat-screen TVs and multi-phones complement more opulent offerings like the Carrara marble bathrooms and king-sized beds with sumptuous linens. The best rooms are those facing inward into the garden. Common areas with luxurious décor and museum-quality artworks are equally relaxing, especially the drawing room where afternoon tea is served. The peaceful inner courtyard also houses the hotel's main restaurant, which will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, in an orangerie-style addition with floor-to-ceiling glass overlooking the garden.

Dublin isn’t very big, but with plenty to see and do, a pre-dinner spa session to decompress is a must. The Merrion’s Tetra Spa has become one of Ireland’s premier pampering institutions, where an 18-meter infinity pool awaits. Available treatments include facials, scrubs, wraps and massages using luxurious Darphin and ESPA products.

One of The Merrion’s most charming areas is its gorgeously manicured garden, which is transporting in its calming atmosphere. It’s a great hideaway from the buzz of the city. And no stay in Dublin is complete without a scrumptious meal at Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, winner of two Michelin stars.

Who Should Stay

Luxury enthusiasts who will be equally thrilled with on-site perks as they are with out-on-the-town experiences. The atmosphere is quiet and refined so the property is more suitable for families with older children or couples.
