Member Slideshow: The Floating Piers by Christo

Lake Iseo's much-anticipated Christo installation, The Floating Piers, opened last week. The ambitious art project links two islands to the mainland via 200,000 floating cubes swathed in dahlia-yellow fabric, allowing visitors to traverse the lake until the installation ends on July 3. Indagare has planned several trips there for our members, including one for Valerie Kelleher Herzog, who shared her tips for visiting and images with us.

What to Know:

  • The traffic approaching Lake Iseo is considerable
  • The village nearest to the installation entrance is closed to outside vehicular traffic
  • Visitors must park in designated lots, which can be up to a 25-minute bus ride from the lake
  • Because of the crowds, visitors must walk rather slowly across the docks
  • The local restaurants are are very crowded and service can be slow
